About keyboardr.com
keyboardr is a homepage. It speeds up your internet experience.
And if you like, it helps you keeping your hands on the keyboard.
In the first place keyboardr is a meta-search. You get Google, Wikipedia, Youtube altogether. The instant search and the keyboard navigation are replacing the feeling of “searching” with the feeling of “launching”.
UPDATE: Check out this post, for tips and tricks and more.
For the future we have big plans for keyboardr.
keyboardr will utilize much more webservices. Among from usual websearch services like google, we are planning to support friendfeed, delicious, twitter, flickr, google docs and many more. And in the final stage, we will have an extension system, open for any developer, to integrate any webservice into our interface. So keyboardr will be a central station for you to get all your common internet tasks done much faster.
Have a look at the video. It also shows you our labs version where we already have friendfeed integrated.

Great site. A couple of things:
Can you integrate vim-style navigation? I really dislike using arrow keys, esp. since Gmail does j/k etc. well.
Also, Firefox doesn’t like your popups — not sure if there’s a way around that.
And finally, any plans for a search bar extension for Firefox?
Good luck!

Search as You Type: Been There, Done That : Beyond Search:
[...] A happy quack to the reader who alerted me to this article about Keyboardr here. The idea is that you can get search results without having to launch a browser, navigate to the search engine of your choice, type a query, and review results. The service “executes and displays searches as you type.” I think this type of service may have some utility. My addled goose recollection is that Autonomy introduced a similar service in 2000, maybe earlier. You can read this interesting article about Autonomy’s system here. If the link is dead, you can locate 1,000 other stories about Autonomy’s innovation with this Google query “Autonomy kenjin”. I really am an old goose. I keep seeing more and more innovations that are not new. Young folks just rediscover something that has already been done. A me too product is fine. Product extensions are fine. What’s not so fine is the positioning of a product as a new new thing. Take this shortcut in the pharmaceutical industry, and the innovator could be giving a deposition. You can get more information about Keyboardr here. [...]

Thanks, this looks pretty good. One problem that I have with it is that it it only works for the first few results from each source. So, you can easily keyboard to the third Google result for a term, but if you want to get to the tenth one you have to keyboard over to the “all results” link (not easy) and then you’re right back where you started: at Google’s webpage. I also endorse the suggestion to make this a Firefox extension.

Bug: when searching for a word that gets no Google results, e.g., “chiropratity”, keyboardr says just ”
searching…”. It should, in my opinion, give a message along the lines of “no results found”.
Feature request: more results, please. For starters, 100 results. Even better would be an infinite scrolling manner similar to Microsoft Live Image search. Here’s an example: http://search.live.com/images/results.aspx?q=obama
But again — nice job!

Have you considering taking ideas from Mouseless Browsing (the firefox plugin?) ABClex:
It encompasses a range of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.
Contemporary medicine applies health science, biomedical research, and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically through medication, surgery, or some other form of therapy.
The word medicine is derived from the Latin ars medicina, meaning the art of healing.
Though medical technology and clinical expertise are pivotal to contemporary medicine, successful face-to-face relief of actual suffering continues to require the application of ordinary human feeling and compassion, known in English as bedside manner.
As science and technology developed, medicine became more reliant upon medications. Pharmacology developed from herbalism and many drugs are still derived from plants (atropine, ephedrine, warfarin, aspirin, digoxin, vinca alkaloids, taxol, hyoscine, etc). The first of these was arsphenamine / Salvarsan discovered by Paul Ehrlich in 1908 after he observed that bacteria took up toxic dyes that human cells did not. Vaccines were discovered by Edward Jenner and Louis Pasteur. The first major class of antibiotics was the sulfa drugs, derived by French chemists originally from azo dyes. This has become increasingly sophisticated; modern biotechnology allows drugs targeted towards specific physiological processes to be developed, sometimes designed for compatibility with the body to reduce side-effects. Genomics and knowledge of human genetics is having some influence on medicine, as the causative genes of most monogenic genetic disorders have now been identified, and the development of techniques in molecular biology and genetics are influencing medical technology, practice and decision-making.
AddonS^
Sahachiro Hata discovered the anti-syphilitic activity of this compound in 1908 in the laboratory of Paul Ehrlich, during a survey of hundreds of newly synthesized organic arsenical compounds. Ehrlich had theorized that by screening many compounds a drug could be discovered with anti-microbial activity. Ehrlich’s team began their search for such a “magic bullet” among chemical derivatives of the dangerously toxic drug atoxyl. This was the first organized team effort to optimize the biological activity of a lead compound through systematic chemical modifications, the basis for nearly all modern pharmaceutical research.
Arsphenamine was marketed under the trade name Salvarsan in 1910. It was also called 606, because it was the 606th compound synthesized for testing Germany it was the practice to designate compounds by their development number. Another compound known commonly in Germany by its number is Parathion, which was the 605th compound to be developed in search for insecticide. It is commonly known as E605 (E stands for Entwicklungsnummer (German for “development number”)]. Salvarsan was the first organic anti-syphillitic, and a great improvement over the inorganic mercury compounds that had been used previously. A more soluble (but slightly less effective) arsenical compound, Neosalvarsan, (neoarsphenamine), became available in 1912. These arsenical compounds came with considerable risk of side effects, and they were supplanted as treatments for syphilis in the 1940s by penicillin.

I love, it definitely is an improvement over Google. However, it needs Google to exist. What will happen when Google claims that you cannot use their search engine to create your own?
Hopefully they would buy your idea and implement it, but it is much more likely they will only treathen to sue you and the copy what you did. :s

Dear Julius,
an impressive tool. I am still wondering about the speeed! It feels really fast!
Another point:
Could there be a key that opens a new tab in the background?
For researchers it is often of great interest to open many pages e.g. in browser tabs. As keyboardr opens a new tab and navigates to it, you have to switch back to the search page to open others… We you want to scan 10 pages and use the loading time this creates an overhead.
January 22, 2009 @ 3:58 am
Ujal:
@Olaf
Unfortunately there is currently no way to open a new tab in the background with your keyboard(assumed you are using Firefox). You can use ctrl+1,+2,+.. to switch fast between tabs.

When I search with your engine, I don’t find the articles who are actualy in google news !
That means that they miss a lot of thing !!
I wish you will succeed in exhaustivity ! Good luck for your very interesting metasearch.

And it pairs well with my Unicomp Customizer keyboard (Clicky keyboard like IBM Model M keyboards of past), Which has a nice clicky sound when I browse through results with Keyboardr. Although, clicky keyboard or not your site is awesome and should be set as everybodies homepage.
